Tell us your story

For the last 12 years I've fought hard in Parliament, the courts and in the community for a fairer, smarter and bolder South Australia.

With the support of thousands of South Australians just like you, I've been able to help save Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary from uranium mining, achieve serious wins for renewable energy, and fought for transparency and accountability from our Government.

But if we're going to make my second term as productive as the first, I'm going to need your help.

Get in touch and let me know your story. So many of the positives the SA Greens have achieved for the State have come through the tip-offs, correspondence and collaboration of concerned citizens.

So please, get involved and tell us your vision for SA.

Q: How can we change SA for the better?
A: Main issues at the moment:
    1. Sustainability – relating to creating infrastructure which treads more lightly: energy (renewable technology and planning) and consumer goods, particularly packaging (e.g. creating a list of packaging products which are acceptable for recycling in Australia so that manufacturers do not use anything else and forming a body of specialists to assist this process, and informing/educating the public so they can do their bit, keeping it as simple as possible (!)).
    2. Environmental Protection: preserving our substantial natural environments, creating natural spaces to preserve our flora and fauna. Continuing to say no to nuclear, and no to accepting any responsibility beyond what is ours for low level dumping.

On a MUCH less important note: Some of us are still waiting for the Southern Expressway to be fully completed – there is still no Southern Access ramps at Reynella (Panalatinga) only a Northern one to and from the city. The large suburbs of OHalloran Hill, Flagstaff Hill, Aberfoyle Park, Happy Valley and surrounds either can’t use the expressway to go South, or travel the extra 20 minutes just to get to the nearest ramp in order to use it. Not every potential expressway user is going into the city, many of us wish to use it to travel south. If there was ramp access at Reynella (Panalatinga), it would take a few minutes to reach Noarlunga, and it would make it much easier for people travelling from Noarlunga to access the suburbs they currently cannot access from the expressway.
Also, another local matter. I have recently read that the (new) government is looking into creating a National Park from collective local areas in and around OHalloran Hill. On the whole, I am very supportive and have some thoughts: *The Happy Valley reservoir should never be used for public swimming. *A campground is a great idea. *Creating a “swimming lake” somewhere like in the South East corner of the Reservoir land area would be awesome (such as the one at Millicent SA), even if it was only open in summer. This would allow swimming in the area without risking our drinking water (water in SA is too precious and scarce to share with swimmers). *To link the natural areas of the Park, animal safe road crossings would be required for the ground animals to be able to travel freely in relative “safety” among these main roads.
That’s all for now, thank you.

Q: Please let us know any other issues that you care about
A: Mark I care about all of the issues listed but understand you can’t address them all. Environmental protection, threatened species, honesty in government (disgusted by the way the Liberals rubbished Rebekha in Mayo), human rights and many other issues. Keep up the good work, I continue to be inspired by what you do. Jasemin
