Stop Significant Tree Carnage!

Glenside_development_image.jpg

The State Government has sold part of the Glenside Hospital site and now property developers are sharpening their chainsaws to destroy 83 significant and regulated trees.

Some of these magnificent trees are hundreds of years old but now, property developer, Cedar Woods, has applied to remove the trees to build a new housing estate on the Fullarton Road / Greenhill Road site.

Whilst the final decision will be made in coming weeks by the Development Assessment Commission, the buck ultimately stops with the State Government, whose inadequate tree protection laws make a mockery of protecting important urban vegetation.

The rezoning of Glenside was contentious, but, now that it has been earmarked for housing, the onus is on the State Government to ensure that large trees and open space are retained to preserve the character of the site and protect the area’s natural heritage.

Sign the petition now to stop the axing of significant trees!

We, the undersigned residents of South Australia, call on the State Government to change the law to both prevent the unnecessary destruction of significant trees and force property developers to incorporate important vegetation into their projects for the benefit of the environment and the wider community.

We also call on the State Government to take action now to protect the magnificent trees on the former Glenside Hospital site.
